Taking care of your skin is essential for keeping a healthy body. Certain treatments and regimen must be followed for every skin types.

It is very important first to know the different types of skin, especially your own skin type, before deciding to use a certain product, or before undergoing a specific treatment. Such knowledge will make you aware of what is complementary to you, and what products you will have adverse effects.

It is a precaution in using the wrong products that would do more harm than good. For instance, you may damage your skin by applying an oil-based cream to your already oily skin. Your skin, particularly the face may have an acne or pimple breakout.

So here are the different skin types. There is an oily, normal, t-zone type, dry skin, sensitive and combination skin. These are defined in more detail below together with the right regimen for each.

Oily Skin
People with oily skin need to have the appropriate and maximum type of care for they are prone to pimples, acne and breakouts. Alternative Cures For Acne

Acne is a skin condition where skin formations, commonly known as whiteheads, or blackheads, appear on the persons face, and upper body. It is most common in teenagers. Although the exact cause of acne is not known, it is believed that it is caused by a combination of increased activity of oil-producing glands, accelerated shedding of dead skin cells, and an increase in the level of hormones.

In order to moisturize its skin, our body uses sebaceous (oil-producing) glands to generate oil (sebum) in hair follicles. As the oil moves towards the surface of the body, it encounters some dead skin cells on its way and mixes up with them. In case the dead skin cells form too rapidly, they create a plug at the pore, which the sebum is unable to penetrate. This leads to accumulation of sebum under the skin, and this is what we call acne, or pimples.

There exist several manifestations and stages of acne, such as whiteheads, blackheads, redheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. The last four are the stages at which tissue becomes infected, and the last two of those are the most dangerous, since they can cause tissue damage which may lead to scarring.

Among the factors that can contribute to acne, are excessive sweating, poor skin hygiene, use of makeup or face creams, not enough sunlight, certain foods (especially processed foods), bodys strong inflammatory response, etc.

Even though acne is not a life threatening condition, it can be a source of a lot of stress and grief, so it needs to be treated in a timely and efficient manner.

Listed below are some time-tested alternative cures for acne:

Acupuncture treatment has been shown to have a considerable positive effect on acne. For example, in a study, conducted in China in the early 90s, sixty two of eighty people suffering from acne had their skin cleared, with another 11 experiencing significant improvement.
Garlic is used in some cultures as an effective antibacterial and natural antibiotic substance. Make a poultice out of one clove of fresh garlic, put it on a piece of gauze and attach to the affected area by a band aid. Cover it with a warm cloth and keep like this for 10-15 minutes. To protect the skin from rashes apply either vegetable oil or Vaseline to the area to be treated first.
Those having oily skin should benefit from aloe juice. You can use the juice purchased at a health store, but it is best to make it yourself. Cut several aloe leaves, rinse, and weather them in a dark cool place for 10 days. After 10 days, squeeze the juice out of the leaves and use it as a skin moisturizer 2 – 3 times a day.
In another recipe for oily skin, add one part each of honey and marigold tincture and mix in a cup of warm water. Apply to the skin 2 – 3 times a day.
To draw out infection, steam you face with a mixture of elderflower and marigold.
Another method of reducing infection consists in briefly boiling young elderflower leaves for 30 -40 seconds and then applying them to the infected area.
To reduce the severity of acne, it is recommended to eliminate processed food from your diet. Also, limit your intake of fatty, as well as spicy foods.
