Acne is a skin condition which appears because of hormonal imbalances in our body. Our organism is continuously producing hormones, and these hormones follow into our internal system, like a river into a pound. Each second our body gets rid of hormones that have made their job.
Hormonal imbalances happen sometimes, like rivers that run out of a pond, the pond will overflow and flood the surroundings. That what happens also in our body, hormones are in excess and this leads to acne or chronic hormonally related health problems. Acne is, by many peoples’ opinion, largely linked with the body functions that involve hormones.
These hormonal imbalances cause many changes in the organism. Acne is an ordinary problem that individuals can face when they are going through hormonal interchanges. Children between 1 and 10 years old don’t get acne, except babies and teenagers and also adults get acne, because changes are taking place in their organism.
Women undergoing menopause also are predisposed to acne due to hormonal imbalances that take place inside of them. Acne can occur in a woman’s life during adolescence, pregnancy, menstruation, and menopause.
There are several treatments that can be used for healing acne, treatments that suppress androgen level in the blood, thus resulting in a reduction in excessive body oils. Contraceptive pills are sometimes used in order to restrict the rise of androgen levels. So it is possible that acne or several other body changes to occur while going through certain hormonal imbalances.
Our hormones like androgen and estrogen play an essential role in ensuring that our skin is healthy, but these hormones if produce in high and overdose quantities may have adverse side effects, like acne. Acne appears usually in adolescence up to early 20s. Most acne outbreaks usually appear primarily in our cheeks, chin, and forehead. Also some people may have lesions on their neck, chest, and even on their backs.
High level of hormones like androgen make the skin’s sebaceous glands grow larger and as a result the glands produce and release more sebum, substance that leads to a more oily skin and more predisposed to acne, because the skin becomes very prone to dirt and bacteria build up. When sebum combines with dirt, the pores become clogged and there a breeding ground for germs and bacteria develops there. In this full of sebum and dirt environment a bacterium that normally lives on our skin, flourishes.
Treating acne at a teenager is harder than treating an adult’s skin, because of the continuous high levels of hormones. Also males are more prone to acne than women during puberty, because of a higher level dose of hormones like androgens.
During puberty, in which the child is on between childhood and adulthood, nature makes several physical changes to prepare the organism for reproduction. These changes are also hormonal, the glands that were latent start functioning and new hormones are released in the body, acne is not the only effect that can be seen during adolescence. Also there occur some changes related to behavior. So the mood of a teenager can also change frequently during teenage years.
