Scientists Discover Genetic Make-up of Acne BacteriumScientists have long known that the bacterium Propionibacteriumacnes (P. acnes) plays a leading role in the development of acnevulgaris, the scourge afflicting some 80% of teenagers and manyadults as well. A normally harmless microbe that lives in thehair follicles of every person, P. acnes helps cause acne whenthe follicles become plugged with sebum, a natural oil producedby the body.Recently a team of German scientists, led by microbiologist Dr.Holger Brueggemann, mapped the genetic code of the P. acnesmicrobe. They discovered that it has a circular chromosome with2,333 genes, many of which had surprising destructive abilities.”We were astonished to see how many genes were involved indegrading the human tissue,” said Dr. Brueggemann. For example, the researchers found that P. acnes containsenzymes similar to those in so-called “flesh-eating” bacteriathat destroy human tissue. It also has enzymes that break downthe skin and use it as its food supply. It contains genes thatsecrete substances that kill competitors, like harmful bacteriaand fungi, in much the same manner as pathogens liketuberculosis and diphtheria. And it uses a defense tactic knownas “phase variation” that helps it escape attack by the humanimmune system.New Acne Treatments May Be PossibleWhat does this mean for acne sufferers?Scientists have long believed that acne results when pores become plugged by bits of dead, flaking skin and sebum. These plugged pores fill with oil, which the P. acnes microbe then feeds on while releasing certain chemicals and enzymes. These enzymes attract white blood cells, causing inflammation, redness and pimples we call acne. Adolescents are more often afflicted by acne because during that age period more of this oil is produced, thanks to hormonal changes in the body at that time. Read More Health Acne Article

Teenage Acne – Signs and Symptoms

Teenage acne normally begins between the ages of ten and thirteen. It may first show on the nose and then spread to the forehead, the chin and eventually to the cheeks. In severe cases, this condition can spread to the neck, shoulders, chest, back and even the upper arm.

If you are a teenager or you are on the brink of becoming one, there are chances that you may suffer from this condition at some stage. The reason acne is prevalent among teenagers is because of the changing hormonal activity at this period. The hormones released at the onset of puberty are responsible for teenage acne. These hormones normally stimulate the skin’s sebaceous glands to produce excess oil leading to an oily skin. An oily skin is susceptible to pore blockages and breakouts.

As you outgrow adolescence, the condition becomes less frequent. This is because at this stage, your skin becomes dryer thereby reducing the chances of developing a blemish. It is not unusual however for acne to persist into adulthood. As a teenager, appearance and especially flawless skin is paramount and therefore blemishes or any other spots especially on your face may spoil the party. Although acne is a physical problem, it can also affect you psychologically.

Acne may have a big impact on your self-esteem as well as on your self-confidence but this does not warrant you to skip from product to product in search of a remedy. There are so many products on the market and therefore you should be cautious because some may have a reverse affect. Teenage acne is a phase we go through on a way to adulthood, it has a beginning and therefore an end is definite.

Acne is something that is very hard to cope with when you are a teenager, trying to survive the battle of high school. It can be embarrassing and troublesome, making you susceptible to the most irritating ridicule. So after taking the steps to rid the acne, what is one to do when scars are left behind? Acne scar treatments can be found in many forms, some of which are home remedies.

Although some treatments may not remove acne scars permanently, they are known to help repair them and make them less visible to your prospective partner’s eyes. In reality, it all depends on the type and severity of the acne scars. Bearing that in mind, some acne scar treatments are easy to try, and the rest of this article will give you some ideas on how to go about them.

Chemical peels have long been known as one of many effective acne scar treatments. This type of treatment can remove and improve small, depressed scars. It can also help in speeding up the removal of current acne. Multiple treatments may be necessary to see the desired results. You know, everything takes time.

Dermabrasion is another one of the available treatments that will work on deeper acne scars. It penetrates deep down into the facial tissue, helping to improve acne scar visibility tremendously. You can also look into laser treatment if you have the time and money to choose this option in acne scar treatments. It will surely offer a huge difference in the way your skin looks, offering relief from small, big, and even very deep acne scars.

And last but not least, soft tissue augmentation is something to consider as well. This type of treatment will help to compensate for the loss of skin cells due to acne scarring, making the skin appear and feel smoother and healthier. It will also help to rid of any remaining acne scars that may be visible.

If you plan to try home remedies, check that you are not paying for the information to do so. Why pay even a dime when you can find free information on the Internet which gives you the opportunity to easily try the acne scar treatments for free? This is important as some acne scar treatments that are home treatments will not work, and nothing is more disappointing than investing a large amount of hard earned money into something that you hope to work but eventually just disappoints you.

By trying the home acne scar treatments one by one, you can decide which works fits your skin type and condition best and stick with it, as home treatments will probably take longer than the treatments described above, but they save money and results should be seen as the treatments continue.
